water closet. the Brits, Scots, Irish, and a few other places call it that. i believe the Japanese use toire (toy ree) and otearai (oh tear aii). of course they use toilet in Engrish too.

if i remember right, the Brits started calling them water closets for a fairly peculiar reason. after indoor plumbing for 'that' was starting to be used in England, the 'bowl' was installed in most older homes using a closet that the home-owner could spare or didn't use often. why build a room on your house just to keep the toilet in when you can use an already finished 'room'? plus, the only things in those new WC were: the bowl, a water supply, and sometimes an overhead tank to add a little extra water pressure for flushing. so the euphemism got started.

the suspect was sprinting as fast as he could. getting whacked in the back of the head with an empty coffee can MIGHT throw him off stride enough to trip, but i doubt it. if it was a full and un-opened can, it probably WOULD hurt and make him trip.
